Marbella in Autumn and Winter: Our Own List
The coast gets quieter after September, and in our view better. The golf courses come into their best months, the mountains are cool enough to walk, and the inland villages fill with chestnuts and wood smoke. These are the things we do between October and March, most within an hour of the villa.

Golf and the mountains
Golf Valley, Nueva Andalucía
€€€
Autumn and winter are when golfers come to this coast, and the villa sits in the middle of it. Los Naranjos, Las Brisas, Aloha and La Quinta share the same valley. Los Naranjos takes visitor tee times online; Aloha is members-only.

La Concha
€
The mountain above Marbella, 1,215 metres. The usual route starts at the Refugio de Juanar above Ojén: around 12 km there and back, four to six hours, with a short chained section near the top. Go on a clear, still day, never in wind or rain. For the view without the summit, Cruz de Juanar is 30 to 40 minutes from the car park.
Refugio de Juanar, Ojén. Free parking, no permit needed.
Caminito del Rey
€
A 3 km walkway pinned to the walls of the Gaitanes gorge, 105 metres above the river at its highest point. From late October it opens 9:00 to 16:00 and is closed on most Mondays. Tickets sell out, so book on the official site rather than a reseller. Allow roughly 90 minutes by car.

Cool air in the gorge — this is a walk for October, not August.
Day trips inland
Ronda
€
The town on the gorge, about an hour up the mountain road. Walk across the Puente Nuevo, then down the path below it for the view back up. Go midweek and have lunch in town; the drive home at dusk is half the point.
Ronda
The Genal Valley
€
Fifteen white villages in chestnut woods on the far side of the Serranía de Ronda. In autumn the trees turn copper and the villages hold their chestnut festivals. Walk the Pasarelas del Genal boardwalk near Jubrique, then order the chestnut flan at La Bodega del Bandolero in Benalauría.

The Bosque de Cobre — copper woods, at their best in November.
Málaga: Picasso and the Pompidou
€
The best rainy-day plan on the coast. The Museo Picasso Málaga opens daily, 10:00 to 19:00, and from 30 October 2026 to 28 February 2027 shows Munch–Picasso. The Centre Pompidou's coloured cube is a short walk away, on the port.

Feria de San Pedro Alcántara
€
The local feria, 13 to 19 October 2026, around the saint's day on the 19th. Giant-head parade, casetas, rides for the children and fireworks on the last night. Go in the afternoon for the feria de día in the town centre.

Marbella TodoDanza
€
The town's dance festival runs from 3 October to 6 November 2026, with performances across Marbella and San Pedro. Check the programme and book an evening show.

The Saturday market
€
Every Saturday, 8:00 to 15:00, all year. Antiques, ceramics, leather and fruit around the old bullring. Easier to enjoy in November than in August.
Nueva Andalucía
Christmas lights and the Three Kings
€
Málaga usually switches on the Calle Larios lights in late November, with light-and-music shows in the evenings until Three Kings on 6 January. On the evening of 5 January the towns along the coast hold their Cabalgata de Reyes — bring a bag for the sweets thrown from the floats.

For families
Snow in Sierra Nevada
€€€
Europe's southernmost ski resort, planned to open from 28 November 2026 to 25 April 2027, snow permitting. It is around three hours by car, so treat it as an overnight or a very early start. Beach in the morning, snow the next day is a thing children remember.

BIOPARC Fuengirola
€€
A zoo built as walk-through tropical habitats, with gorillas, lemurs and a Madagascar island. Open every day of the year, which makes it the fallback for a grey afternoon.
